Chico is Nominee for American Humane Society Hero Dog 2012

Date posted: January 5

Chico was found on the near West side of Cleveland, Ohio. Freezing and afraid…somehow he was taken to CCAS. Chico’s journey was long and painful with scars on the body and especially the ‘Heart’. It was fate that this 3.5 pound little guy came to me after being adopted out. Chico was brought back the same day.

As a former Horse Farm owner H.S. Hero Dog 2ER/Trainer/Dog Breeder since 1967, I could feel Chico’s mistrust for people and other animals. The day after Chico was brought back, my Husband and I traveled to CCAS where I had already emailed our application. The pup we actually went to see was too large for me to handle, now a disabled senior.

Chico was brought out by Greg Willey, former CCAS Director. What a wonderful surprise! Chico has come so far, beyond what I even imagined. Chico saved my life and has been nominated for the AHS Hero Service Dog of 2012. Chico’s story is truly amazing!

Please vote for Chico at: www.herodogawards.org (click on Contestants) beginning April 1 thru June 30, 2012. You can vote everyday! Please pass the word, for all monies presented to Chico will be donated proudly to the Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter!!! Winnings can be as much as $5,000 to $15,000.

Chico and I both, commend all the Staff and wonderful Volunteers for their love of all the animals and their selfless dedication.

YOU ALL ARE TRULY HEROES!!!!

Elmo (formerly Ladd)

Date posted: December 25

In April 2001, I adopted Buddy, a six-month-old Shepherd/Collie mix, from the Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter. He was a great dog and I loved him dearly. Sadly, he was diagnosed with cancer in February 2010. He died at home in November 2010 with me and my other dog Lucky by his side. I was devastated. Although I miss everything about Buddy all the time and I always will, Lucky and I went to the Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter in October 2011 and adopted Ladd. I renamed him Elmo (like the Muppet) because it fit his personality.

Elmo is extremely affectionate, well-mannered, playful, intelligent, and became house trained very quickly. He makes friends with all of the people and animals he meets. He loves Dr. Busack and the entire staff at Bartels Busack Pet Hospital Resort & Spa. He is healthy and gaining the weight he needs. Elmo is a blessing and I love him more than words can express.
