We met George in January of 2004 after a three month search for an addition to our family. It’s hard to believe we’ve been without him since June. As much as it hurts to have lost him, I could not imagine those 7 years without this beautiful loving boy in my life. Still healing, but plan to rescue again.

We spoiled George rotten and he filled our lives with so much fun and laughter. We are so grateful we visited the shelter that cold January day!

Thanks for all your work.

On May 1, 2011 we sadly had to put to sleep out 17 year old beagle/shepherd mix, Meeko, following a short, but aggressive illness. For weeks, our entire family, and our remaining dog, Igor (bichon/shih tzu mix) were completely and totally lost. Igor started showing signs of extreme anxiety, which was completely understandable, and our house felt off kilter. At the end of May, we decided to adopt a new dog. We didn’t search far! We found a dog we were interested at the Cuyahoga Animal Shelter, but when we called the next day we were told that dog had already been adopted. But the man on the other line said, “We have a lot of dogs, looking for a home. More than we can list online. Maybe you should come down and have a look.” We were lucky enough that my husband was off that day, so we made the hour long drive to the shelter. I had never been to a large shelter, only rescues, so I was a bit overwhelmed when we walked in. We have a young son so we needed a family friendly dog, and we were recommended to cage #13. We did our rounds, and came upon cage #13, but he was out! We waited for him to come back, and when he did he melted my heart. A tall, but very thin black lab was Mr 13, and while he was terrified there was a gentleness in his way. Unsure of his temperament, I went in with him alone first and did all my armchair personality testing. After about five minutes of hesitation, he warmed up to me. My husband went in next and liked him too. We were decided, but unfortunately he was so new to the shelter, that we had to wait another day to officially adopt him. We went back the following day and he was ours! A few days later we brought him home, gave him a new name, Bodi, and have been happy since. He is amazing with our son, and they are officially buddies. My son’s first word outside of Mama and Dada, is dog dog, and he only started saying it after we got Bodi. Now whenever he sees Bodi come in from outside, or back from a car ride, he squeals with delight. Needless to say, while the hole left behind by our beloved Meeko could never be filled, Bodi has earned his very own special place in our hearts.

Oscar was found in East Cleveland roaming the streets. The first time I saw him, he was like a hunchback that wouldn’t look me in the eye. We brought him home about a month later and since then, he has grown into a sweet, loving, energetic pup. People turn heads when in the public, saying how interesting looking he is, and how sweet of a dog he is. He runs with me up to 6-7 miles, and could probably go further. He loves hikes, playing fetch, snuggling, children, and other dogs and cats. He makes me smile so big. He’ll be apart of our new family (wedding is set for next summer!) for a long time and we’re very happy for it.

Benni is an adorable 7 month old Shepherd/Corgi mix boy. This handsome little guy loves treats, but he loves to be held even more. He is hoping to be someone’s special little lap dog for this holiday season. This guy is the perfect mix of playful puppy and sweet lovebug. He is definitely a dog to see at our shelter!

Ricky is a 5 month old Hound mix male. This sweet pup is a real joy as he really likes to play with the volunteers. If you are looking for a younger companion then come in and meet this doll. He can go home with you today as he is already fixed. Ask about kennel #3.

Sully is a fun and spunky Sheltie mix boy. This little guy came to the shelter in need of a good grooming and maybe a few extra walks. He doesn’t let that get him down. He loves being with people and really wants to please those around him. Sully is looking for a family wiling to help him lose just a few pounds so that he can find his figure again!

Conga is a fun and spunky 8 month old Lab puppy. She loves to play and would really love to find a family and some toys of her very own. Conga will happily sit for a treat and would love to learn even more from you.

Hitch is a handsome little 3 month old Lab mix boy. This little guy loves to cuddle and is learning to sit for a treat. Hitch is a sweet little boy that would love to go home with a family of his very own. With those big brown eyes and sweet face, he is sure to make you fall in love with him.

Elmo is a sweet and fun 1 and 1/2 year old Hound mix boy. He is a playful boy that loves toys and treats, but will happily sit or lay down if you ask him to. He can’t wait to show you just how much he already knows and is looking forward to spending this Christmas with a new family.

Dobbs is a 6 year old beagle male. This beautiful boy is spunky and ready to meet his new family. He enjoys his kennel mate Gully but there is no place like home. Won’t you come and meet him? Ask for kennel #19.
