Mia is a sweet and sassy 2 and 1/2 year old Hound mix girl with a heart of gold. Mia can’t wait to find a family to spend her time with. She seems okay with other dogs as she shared her kennel with another dog while at the shelter. She is currently in a foster home. Mia knows many of her basic commands and even tried to showcase her paw giving skills in her picture! Her foster Mom tells us she is crate trained and a joy to have around. If you’re interested in meeting her, please call 216-525-7877 to arrange an appointment.
My family and I adopted Roxy (aka Piper) in September of 2010. We are first time dog owners, and we couldn’t have asked for a better pup. She is very intelligent, well-behaved, and loves everybody! She especially enjoys eating cheese, playing in the snow, and, of course, chasing squirrels. She is still adjusting to her new home, but I’m so glad we were able to give her the chance at a great life! Thanks to everyone at the shelter who made this possible! |
Hi My name is Kaos. I used to be in Cage #50. I waited a really long time to find my wonderful parents and a forever home, and I found that in my mom and dad. When I first came home I was 10lbs underweight and I had worms. It was no fun..but I’m spoiled rotten now. I get roasted Venison and Bison twice a day. I get to run and play in the snow in the dog park by my home. My Mom takes me to my Grandmas where I get to play with 3 big German Shepherds and I also get to visit my best friend Riley at my Aunt Meeka’s. I sleep all I want. I have my own bed in 2 rooms, and I like to sleep on Dad’s side of the bed when he’s not home. I go to the pet stores with Mom and everyone thinks I’m sooo cute with my curly tail… even the little ones wanna come hug me cause I’m their size!!! I’m still working on a few quirks I have with certain dogs, and I’m still afraid of the camera but I’m getting better!! Thank you for helping me find a heaven here on earth!!! |
This is Milo (cage 28). We adopted Milo May 18, 2010. We weren’t necessarily looking for a dog, but like they say, “You don’t pick the dog, the dog picks you”. Finally, we couldn’t resist those big brown eyes and floppy ears any more, so we brought him home. He was 20 pounds underweight and a bit nervous in our home at first. It has taken some time for all of us to adjust (and we’re still adjusting), but Milo was a big puppy who needed a lot of love and attention. Milo makes me laugh every day and has gotten to be good friends with Shadow our cat (the cat may not agree, but they are buddies). Anyone who has ever thought of adopting a “pound” puppy should. It does take a lot of patience and time, but the rewards are awesome. Milo has come a long way and I can’t imagine our home and life without him. (By the way, he has gained his 20 pounds, plus a little more, but he is so handsome and happy!) In case you’re wondering, Milo is a Hound, Beagle, Shepherd, Husky, Poodle, Great Dane mix. |
I adopted Lord Stanley, aka Nero, cage 66, December 2010, and he has fit into the family perfect! He is definitely one smart dog! We are in obedience class right now and are going to be starting some agility training here in Spring. He goes to work with me daily and visits with the people I care for (I’m a home health aide) and works on physical therapy with them by playing fetch, tug of war, and even making them pet him! He also visits a local nursing home and spends his time going lap to lap giving kisses! Rough job indeed! He has made many doggie friends in the neighborhood and has a blast playing with his brother Doc Marten here in the backyard. He does enjoy being a couch potato and watching TV, the Pound Puppies and Scooby-Doo are favorites as well as Pittsburgh Penguins hockey. He has managed to gain the weight that he needed to and has become a food snob in the process! Here is his picture taken with Santa at the Kennel with his brother Doc Marten. |
I just adopted Hermione on Saturday, January 22, 2011. I don’t know that she had a name at the shelter, but she was behind the desk. Well, after only 2 days, she has made herself at home. She adores me, and my 3 year old son, Aodhan. But I keep telling her she needs to suck up to Dad, too. She loves our cats, but one of the cat’s isn’t sure what to do with a dog that is smaller (and more active) than he is. I’m not sure, but whenever she looks at me, she’s saying thank you |
It has been 6 months since I brought Duncan (beagle mix) home and 6 years for Darby (collie mix). At first Darby wasn’t so sure about having a new little brother, and Duncan was so shy he didn’t make a sound for two weeks! Now he fits right in as if he has always been here. They have brought so much love and joy to my home, I couldn’t imagine life without them. Thank you so much for saving them and for all you do for all of the dogs in your shelter. |
Every dog owner knows having a furry companion enriches your life. It had been more than a decade since I had a dog. Adopting Truman (Tucker on this website!) was the best move I’ve made in a long time.
We walk four or five times a day, regardless of the weather or my work schedule, which is great for both of us. We’ve met many neighborhood friends and love running in the park. He was mute for about a month. Then as he got more comfortable, he started making his own doggie noises for walks, just being happy, and play time. Eventually he couldn’t take not barking, and someone setting a car alarm with that double beep is always cause for a few loud ones! I take him to work with me on Saturdays and the office calls him our Saturday mascot. The Cuyahoga County kennel website made it easy for me to browse dogs that were available and their description of his demeanor was spot on. The dog warden who worked with me was fabulous, as were many of the staff people. I have a blog and periodically post a dog from the Shelter just to remind people how wonderful it would be if they adopted someone! Thank you so much for enriching my life. Hairy Truman (yes, Hairy) thanks you too! |
Jackson is a wonderful 8 year old Spaniel mix boy who doesn’t understand how he ended up without a family. This boy looks like he’s had a tough time lately and has lost some of his beautiful black coat to fleas. This cuddly boy would like to find a family of his own who will give him some time to grow his fur back and maybe a sweater this winter!
