LillyI got Lilly a year ago and for my birthday she gave me this.  I would like to share it with you:

You first saw me on-line
You thought I looked cute.
You didn’t like my name “Whiskers”.
I didn’t look like a cat, but I had a cat’s name.
You came in twice to see me.
I put my paw through the kennel cage wanting you to pat me.
The second time you came, you brought a friend.
My keeper at the kennel brought me in a small room to meet you.
It was love at first sight.
I knew if you saw me in person(or in my case “in dog”) you would take me home.
I was right!
You showed me green grass and I showed you how much fun it was to roll in it.
You showed me water and I showed you I can swim and put my whole face in it.
You showed me that by going to a building and by giving someone in the window some paper, I got something good to eat.
You showed me my sister and I got a grumpy sister.  I realize she’s old and thinks she is the big shot of the family, but really!
You showed me the bed to sleep in and I showed you how I like waking you up in the morning by going under the covers and biting your toes.
You took me to school so I would learn something and I showed you how stubborn I can be.
I just want to say Mom,
Thank-you for taking me home that day!
Love, Lilly

Lilly had grown out and filled in.  She always keeps me on my toes and makes me laugh alot. She’s one in a million.  I love her alot.

We Adopter Kida, a 7 month old Akita shepherd mix (#44)this past May, and since the moment we brought her home, she has been nothing but amazing. She was one of the first dogs we had seen and for some reason we just kept coming back to her, waiting patiently in her kennel, with that look of ‘I like you, take me home’. She has brought so much joy and laughter into our lives. Coming home from a hard day at work to unconditional love, is something that I never truly knew till we adopted her. We named her Chiquita initially, because we thought she was an Akita Chow mix, but upon some research we found out she’s a good part Shepherd so Kida she became.

She’s got an amazing knack of seeing things we don’t,especially squirrels. She loves chasing squirrels! She also loves to run, swim, play fetch, and amuse the cat. Though the cat would rather not be amused. She has a sweet disposition, just still working on jumping people when she gets excited, but she is so smart. Smarter then we are sometimes. She’s great on walks and loves, loves loves, car rides! She only speaks when she sees something – an Akita trait I found out. Which can catch people off guard if they’re not expecting it. Overall, we’re so happy to have brought this sweetie into our lives. And would like to thank CCAS for being so great and to keep doing what they do so well!!!

The Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter is looking for new volunteers who are interested in helping the local homeless pooches at our shelter.  If you want to become a volunteer, there is a two hour orientation that you will need to attend.  The next one is set for Sunday, November 14th at 10:30am promptly at the shelter.  After the orientation, everyone is required to shadow a seasoned/experienced volunteer for a minium of 10 hours to get real hands-on experience when working with the stray dogs.  After that, you are allowed to come whenever you are able to come and walk and socialize dogs.  This is going to be the main focus of volunteering; teaching dogs their basic commands so they become family dogs.

There are age requirements and if you are 18 years and older you are considered an adult.  If you are 14-17 years old you need to have your parent/legal guardian accompany you during the orientation and every time after that, no exceptions.  The parent/legal guardian will also have to go through orientation and volunteer with the teen at all times.  Anyone 13 years of age and younger are not allowed to volunteer due to liability.  There is no required set schedule of the volunteers.  After the first ten hours, you are able to come any day and time that you choose; it is very flexible.  If you are interested in the November 14th orientation, please email Kara Archer, the Volunteer Coordinator, at karcher@cuyahogacounty.us, so she can add your name to the sign-in sheets since seats are limited.
