There is a big Thank You in order from the Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter for the opportunity to join Mix 106.5 at the IX Indoor Amusement Park for two special and fun-filled weekends in April. The IX Indoor Amusement Park opened their lobby to the volunteers from the Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter on Saturday, April 10th and April 17th of this year. The IX staff made flyers for the Shelter, allowing us to give any adult who donated to the Best Friends’ Medical Relief Fund a discount off their admission tickets, with all proceeds going to our dogs and puppies needing medical care. We also had amusement park goers stop by and inquire about the Shelter and the plentiful amount of dogs and puppies for adoption.
A special thanks to the Shelter volunteers who helped make this event such a success: on Saturday April 10th – Melanie, Josie, Andrea, Corrine, Jill, Carol and Janice; and on Saturday, April 17th – Kelly, Donna, Marijo, David P., David J. All these people took time out of their busy Saturdays to donate their time and enthusiam to this wonderful event and allow us the opportunity to share information about our Shelter. Thanks again to everyone who worked so hard and their energy that went into this event!
I visited your place at the end of January and you just took in a shepherd mix – Cage 55 at the time and I went ahead with the adoption. I have to admit, it was very rough for the first month or so. But things have gotten better between my older dog, Lexi, and my new addition, Ginger. Although they don’t play as I would have liked, they are not at each other’s throats, either. Lexi occasionally gives Ginger a quick snarl and that is about it. I play with them in the yard at the same time, but with different toys and they seem content to do that. I have also hired a trainer to help me with Ginger’s commands and I am also enrolling Ginger in an obedience class. On a bigger note, I have just begun Ginger’s involvement with a local search and rescue team, Ohio Search Dog Association (www.osdak9.org). The group tells me that it usually takes about 12 to 18 months to certify a dog. So it will be awhile before we are able to help, but I am excited about doing this. Anyway… here are a couple of pictures of my two “monsters.” Ginger is on the left.
I got Legend, which I named him, in March 2004. I visited 3 times before I made my decision. At first he was showing his teeth and growling. By the 2nd visit he was wagging his tail. On the 3rd visit when they put us both in a meeting room he jumped all over, peeded on me etc. I’ll take him! I’d like to say he’s the best dog I ever had, but it’s better to say, he’s the best dog I have ever had in a different way. Every day I cook chicken thighs, which only has 1 bone. I buy about 10 pkgs a week. After it cools I take it apart cut it up and either give it to him with cooked rice or cheese. He has his own Lazy Boy recliner and sleeps in bed. The best thing you can do is get your best friend at the shelter.
We adopted Moxie (AKA Cage #40) in January 2010. He has been with us almost three months now and is feeling right at home. He loves his big doughnut pillow and learned pretty quickly where the cookie bone jar was on the counter! His friend Bentley lives next door, and they hit it off right away. If they are not running the fence together, Bentley comes over so they can enjoy a Frosty Paws treat together. We are also working on becoming walking partners this spring. He loves everyone he meets- even the mail lady, and was an instant hit at the vet as well. He is a special addition to our family. He has made our home once again complete!
Hey everyone! It’s time to celebrate the 2010 Adopt-A-Thon event at the Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter. During the days of Saturday, May 1st and Sunday, May 2nd, the Shelter will be partnering with the North Shore Animal League America and spokesman, Cesar Millian, as a Shelter Partner in helping local homeless dogs get adopted. During the Adopt-A-Thon the Shelter will open at 10:30 am until 4:30 pm both days. Please come and join us and meet all our wonderful dogs that are looking for a FURever home and to become your new best friend!!!

My fiance and I adopted a dog from your shelter in November. Her name was Misty, a shepherd mix. We changed her name to Bailey when we brought her home and she is our little princess!!! Bailey is a very active little girl and LOVES LOVES LOVES to play with other dogs. She is such a smart little girl and has learned to sit, shake and lay remarkably quick. She thinks she is a 10 pound lap dog and we wouldn’t have it any other way. We feel very blessed to have Bailey in our lives and look forward to the day we’ll add at least one more k-9 member to our family. The picture is of Bailey letting her hair down and enjoying a car ride, one of her favorite things to do.
Coleman, adopted 05-2007 and he picked his own name too. The shelter said he is a lab/chow mix, but the vet thinks rhodi rigdeback/boxer, who knows?? We believe he was abused by someone he trusted, but has slowly come around with love and his dog friends. He eats 2 fresh cooked meals a day and is spoiled, trying to make up for his abuse the first 4 month of his life.
Manny, almost 2 years old and has been loved in my home for a year and 3 months. He now gets 2 fresh cooked meals per day and plays with his other dog friends.
We adopted our dog Coco, you called her Lucy, in Feb. 2008. We came to the shelter to look at another dog that we had seen on the website. When walking by Coco’s cage she came right up and stole our hearts! We thought we should give the dog we originally came to see a chance so we kept walking. But we just couldn’t stay away from her!
When we inquired about her we were told that her heartworm test was inconclusive so she may have heartworm. We didn’t care. We knew she had to be part of our family. It turned out that she was tested again when she was spayed and she tested negative. She was 4 1/2 yrs old at the time and had kennel cough as well. We got her home and she was so sweet and gentle letting us wipe her nose and eyes. She has turned out to be the best dog I’ve ever had. She’s extremely loving and intelligent. Who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks? She has learned so many things in the last 2 yrs. She is very obedient and loves to please. We are so thankful to have found her. Thank you so much to everyone at the Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter!
Sherlock Holmes came into our lives on January 7th. He is a very spirited puppy/dog who loved to romp in the snow and have chases in the backyard with the cat’s laser toy. We want to time him. He also likes his walks. But his favorite pasttime is watching for birds, cats, dogs, trucks etc.)
