We adopted Greeley in mid-October, 2009. Whatta great guy! We are so happy we have him. Not only did my daughter adopt Greeley, the entire family rallied to help Greeley get through his early attachment/anxiety problems. Now everyone in the family wants Greeley to live with them. That’s not going to happen. He is staying with us, we just love him to death. He is so appreciative of his home and his family. We are truly blessed to have found him.
It had been a very hard couple years and I was still battling Cancer and other serious medical problems. Being a former dog breeder/trainer and Horse Farm owner since 1967 I was living now with my husband in a condo. The life I loved so well was now gone and I so missed my precious animals.
It was the beginning of November 2006 when my husband and I agreed that I needed a special companion. For I was very lonely while he was working and my friends and family were all out West.
After getting in touch with Barb about a little minipin we saw on the internet, we decided to meet Barb at the Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter on Sunday. I downloaded an application and filled it out. I was so excited! I hoped I would be bringing my little friend home.
We arrived a little ahead of schedule waiting so anxiously to see him. To our dismay he was quite a bit larger than we thought and extremely active. There was no way I could handle him. My heart sunk and I was very dissappointed.
We talked with Barb for a short time, looked around at the other dogs and decided to wait until the time we found a perfect match. As we were leaving, Greg Willey called out to us, “Please don’t leave yet. I will be right back.” We looked at each other questioningly. What could he possibly want. Five minutes later, Greg appeared with a tiny little bundle in his arms, a beautiful tiny white/tan Applehead Chihuahua. I just wanted to hold him and hug him.
Needless to say, this poor little guy who had been thrown out in the cold, then adopted out; then returned because he nipped/bit due to fear aggression is NOW: My BEST FRIEND & Registered SERVICE DOG!
I cannot imagine what would have happened to him if we had not visited the Cuyahoga Animal Shelter that day. CHICO is the light that shines in my heart and I thank him for his devotion to me. God Bless the Animals and God Bless the ones that help them.
The Cuyahoga Animal Shelter is a wonderful place. For all the people, Staff & Volunteers are selfless and devoted to the best for all the dogs. We cannot tell you how much we appreciate all you do!
Sugar, kennel 9, now known as Holly has been a God send to me, she keeps me laughing all the time with her antics. She has really been a good girl and goes for walks every day. I really missed my other dog that had to be put down because of an illness, but Holly filled the void in my heart left there from that. Thank you so much!
Precious Puppy and Harrison Marley were both adopted from your shelter, thank you! They are the love of our lives (even when they’re being their typical PITA selves)! Both are so grateful you saved them, and so are we! As you can see from the picture, they can never be apart as Harry is even trying to sit on his sister. Thank God she is so tolerant! Precious is the best dog ever, and Harry will be soon too. Even though he’s huge, he’s still just a puppy. I tell everyone I know they need to go adopt a dog from your shelter, so hopefully one day soon so many dogs will stop being abandoned. Thanks again for everything you guys do, and keep up the good work!
My husband and I adopted “Violet”, now known as Maggie…or the “The Goob” in May 2008. She was a very sad girl when we first brought her home. She was recovering from kennel cough and had a few wounds on her front legs. After a couple weeks of medicine, good food and a comfy bed she transformed into a new dog. Her high energy and everlasting excitement kept us on our toes but we made it through. Many walks and lots of exercise helped a lot! At almost two years later we can’t imagine our lives without her. She is a very happy girl with her own toys, fenced in backyard, two kitty sisters and two people that love her very much. Maggie has found her forever home.
I am very lucky to have adopted Maple Grace in September 2008 from Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter. She is a collie mix and was aprox. 6 months old when she came into my life. She was only 28 pounds but now she is a healthy 60 pounds!!! She has grown tall and strong! Maple loves her warm and safe home and her daily walks. Her favorite activites besides walks are trips to Petsmart and the metroparks! This Christmas she even had her picture taken with Santa Claus. I know Maple is a very lucky girl to now have a wonderful family and a spoiled lifestyle, but I must say I feel that I am the lucky and spoiled one to have Maple in my life. She is my best friend and look forward to many happy years together!!! We hope to soon be able to adopt a brother or sister dog for Maple!
