Ozzie found me at the shelter last May, during the annual adoptathon. He was suffering from Demodectic Mange and malnutrition, but that did not affect his loving personality at all. Being a shelter volunteer myself, I was given the privilege of taking him for a walk. He followed me all around and greeted each new person with enthusiasm. Then he gave me ‘The Look’. Anyone who is looking for a new best friend knows ‘The Look’. It’s the one where your eyes meet and your hearts touch and you know it is meant to be. I wasn’t looking for another dog. Since losing Buster, my best friend for 12 years, a few months earlier, I wasn’t sure that Tigger, my other best friend was ready either. So I gave Ozzie back to Renee, the vet tech and continued working my post at the adoptathon…for about 7 minutes. I left my post and went home to get Tigger so that the two could meet. After some mild protesting and a lot of dancing, I think Ozzie gave Tigger ‘The Look’ as well. And that was that. Dog Warden Lena and I filled out the paperwork and discussed Ozzie’s needed medical treatments. Since then, Ozzie has become somewhat of a celebrity in the area. He went to the Canine Canal Walk, Meet Your Best Friend at the Zoo, and the Brookpark Walk and Swim. He is a favorite at the vet and a VIP at PetCo. He has photos in two 2009 calendars. He was a star in downtown Chicago. He was a big hit at the Archwood Street Sale. His favorite activities include eating, going for a walk, napping with his kitty, Picasso, playing with Tigger and Rainy in the back yard, and eating. He currently serves as therapy for a retarded man. His most recent job is puppy-sitting and educating the foster pups in social behavior. Ozzie is such a wonderful addition to this family. I thank everyone at the Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter and the Best Friends Medical Fund for saving his life. You will be happy to know that most of his hair has grown back and he remains Mange free!

This is our dog Roo (short for Kangaroo). When we came to the shelter two years ago we were in love with another dog we had seen on TV. After that dog not working out for our family, Roo was recommended by one of the shelter’s employees. She was afraid and did not bark for the first 8 days and we thought there was something wrong. On the eighth day my husband came home and we heard something from her that we thought was a bark and her kindness and warmth came out that day. Since then she loves our couch…our cars….and most of all, sleeping at our feet. Thank you to the employee that recommended her, as she is so a large part of our Happy Family as she brings us such joy and love. Oh yeah…..we named her Roo because you should see how high she can jump!

We want to thank all of you who took part in our adoption of Logan Stanlee formerly known at your kennel as “Orbit”. He has been wonderful and has transitioned very well. He has been with us for about 3 weeks now and is already house broken and a great “doorbell”. He is very active and plays well with others…including furry ones. We are very happy to have him as a part of our family. We look forward to finding him a brother or sister in the future to help consume some of his energy.

While visiting family in Cleveland during the holidays, my brother-in-law insisted on taking us to your shelter one day after lunch. After a long discussion on the flight home, we made plans to drive back the next weekend and adopt from you — we saw so many wonderful dogs at your shelter and were very impressed with your staff and volunteers. January 2, 2009, Apollo (aka Gilley) came home with us. He’s perfect — perfect health, perfectly lovable, perfect with the cats (although the cats aren’t perfect with him), perfectly house broken — everyone loves him. He loves the snow — although we don’t get nearly as much as they do back in Cleveland. But, he’s proved that he loves the beach just as well. . . Our extended family has adopted 3 dogs this year from your shelter — and if we ever feel he needs more company, we’ll be driving north again. Thanks so much!!
