Hello everyone,

My name is Schmo (long o). I was born about 10 years ago and lived most of my life on the east side of Cleveland, Cleveland Heights to be exact. I was found on the street by the kind folks from the Cuyahoga County Kennel. They took me “home”, fed me, gave me a checkup and then gave me a space of my own. I took up residence on Dec. 9, 2008. Little did I know what awaited me, but I kept my spirits up, hopeful that someone would see me, like what they saw, and offer me a permanent home.

One day this lady walked in, sad because her four-legged friend of 13 years had died a week before. She was lonely without the clicking of four feet on the kitchen floor, and had no one to talk to. Her manfriend, too, was sad. When I saw her, I barked and wagged my tail, hoping that she wouldn’t just pass me by. But “by” she went, looking for what?

A bit later, I saw her again. She stopped to pet me and talk to me. I told her that I was a good dog and that I would keep her company for the rest of my days if she would let me. Sadly, she turned and walked out the door. Not long after, the nice man from the kennel came with a lead and off I went. But where was I going? He led my to a room, opened the door, and there she was! I was so happy to see her. I darn near wagged my tail off my rump. She petted me, asked me to sit, stay, and lay down, and I did. “What a smart girl,” she said.

I touched her heart, and she touched mine, and we knew we were meant to be together. Later that day, she came back with her manfriend, and when he saw me, he exclaimed, “Oh, another Schmo!” I came to find out that less than six months before, the couple had to ease the suffering of yet another four-legged friend, and the man had affectionately called him “Schmo”.

I am now THE schmo of Seven Hills, warm, happy, and a much loved companion of the lady and gentleman who adopted me on Jan. 8, 2009. I know we were meant to be together, and so do they.

We have both always loved dogs. After having a horrible experience trying to adopt a dog from another shelter we felt as if having a dog as part of the family would never happen. Finally after about three months we decided to visit the Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter. As we walked it felt like we were never going to get an agreement on a dog. Then we found Milli. He is the sweetest dog ever and we knew right away that he was the one. Having Milli has made us so happy, and he is the best dog we could find. Thank you CCAS!

We adopted “Harley” in 2007. At the shelter they called him “Moose”. We saw his picture on the net and I instantly fell in love with him!! Our Rotty “Bo” had just passed away and I love big dogs, so Harley seemed like the perfect pick. When we went to see him we brought along my daughters dog “Otis” who is a pug / boston terrier mix. He and Harley took some time to get used to each other. Although Otis took more time than Harley. They thought at the shelter he may be a German Shorthair / Rotty mix. A friend of mine swears he’s German Shorthair / American Bulldog. I took him to the vet the next day after we brought him home to have a check-up and the vet said “You do realize he’s gonna fill out and be a big boy, don’t you?” I kinda figured he would put some weight on, when he came home from the pound he already weighed 70lbs. Harley now weighs 115lbs. of solid muscle and doppiness!! He loves all our dogs and is the most wonderful buddy I could ever ask for!!! My kids absolutely love him as do my wife and I. He is the most loving dog and he thinks he’s a lap dog sometimes. When this dog gets on your lap YOU KNOW IT!! I wanna thank everyone at the shelter for all there help. Also thank-you to the vets that work there, my vet was very impressed with ya’ll. I’ll send more pics sometime soon when my wife has time to show me how to use this computer again!! P.S. My vet nicknamed him “shovelhead”.

It’s been almost 4 years since we adopted Guinness (originally Norbie) and we couldn’t be happier. When we took him home, he was a frightened little 3 month old puppy with kennel cough and within a very short time, he became the life of the party at home. Nothing goes on in our house that Guinness isn’t in the middle of. He’s playful, smart and loves his people. We couldn’t ask for a better dog. Thank you for all of the great work you do at the kennel.
